Apple has today announced a new range of iPod nanos at it's "Special Event" held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theatre in San Francisco. The cases on the 2nd Gen nanos are reported to be made from aluminium, much like the mini, and are somewhat slimmer than the original nanos. They also appear to be available in the same colours as the mini (pink, blue, green, silver and black). Other upgrades include increased battery life, from 15 to 24 hours, gapless playback, instant search, and quick scrolling. New headphones are also supplied with this model. Prices on the new nanos are as follows: $149 for 2GB, $199 for 4GB, $249 for 8GB model. These should be available for purchase today and the Apple store website is currently being updated.

Why am I eyeing the shuffle? Hmmm it's tempting. iTunes 7 looks great too including new album cover browse feature. Only announcement I'm confused by is this.

What a joke....5 sec and boom a reading. I'd hate to see the person that actually trusted that to detemine if they had too much to drink.

On the other hand, its good to see Apple institute gapless playback. I'll need to see if their software is still glitchy. I got rid of the last vestige of my ipod collection recently. iRiver, the happy man's dap!

And, Hi all, been gone for a while, glad to be back!!

Great changes by Apple: gapless playback, search on Ipod, 80GB Ipod and the iTunes (finally) supports several libraries for simplified handling of music stored on external hard drives.

I'm not so sure about that 'multiple libraries' part. There's been discussions of that on various Mac sites. Could be just the separation of media. Has anyone tried? I'm unfortunately away from my Mac for the next day to test. Libra may still be necessary.

Unfortunately, I haven't gotten iTunes 7 to run yet. I tried to install it yesterday but gave up after trying it for 20 min and always the same error message. I might need to uninstall the old iTunes first, will try that today after work.
