SANDISK today unveiled the world’s largest capacity flash-based MP3 player, the 8GB Sansa e280 that boasts audio, photo viewing and video clip playback capabilities. Priced at $249.99 (MSRP), the e280 is the latest evolution of SanDisk’s flagship e200 series. The 8GB device also sports a microSD expansion slot allowing expansion to 10GB of music, or 2,500 songs, with an optional SanDisk 2GB microSD card, making it the largest capacity flash-based MP3 player currently on the market. In conjunction with the rollout of the e280 and in preparation for the holiday season, SanDisk has lowered its prices on the entire Sansa e200 line of products, including the existing 2, 4 and 6GB models.

I'm just reading this old thread.
Anyone have any idea what "an open (non-proprietary) digital rights management system" is?

I would guess that's their way of stressing that they're not compatible with Apple's "FairPlay" DRM which, as far as I know, they don't license to any other music player manufacturer.
Presumably this means that there is at least one form of "rights management" (which is a misleading phrase in itself) that this player supports that any device manufacturer can license.
I would be much more enamored of that device if I could touch one somewhere, or at least find someone who sold them. Come to think of it, the 8GB iPod has also been conspicuously absent from stores . . .
